Where Do You Start?

High-risk Al systems

This category includes AI systems defined as in, creating an adverse impact on people's safety or their fundamental rights (as protected by EU Charter of Fundamental Rights) such as human resource management. These Al systems are subject to extensive regulation and far-reaching obligations under Art. 6-51 of the Al Act.


Low or minimal-risk Al systems

Examples include Al in computer games or Al-based spam filters. These Al systems do not fall within the scope of the Regulation and are therefore not subject to any restrictions.

Prohibited Al systems

This includes, for example, Al systems for social scoring, real-time biometric identification systems in public spaces, or harmful behavioural manipulation. These Al systems are completely prohibited under Art. 5 of the Al Act.


Limited-risk Al systems

This category includes systems with which humans can interact directly (e.g. a chatbot). These Al systems are subject to the transparency obligations under Art. 52 of the Al Act.
